NATURE OF POSITION: Thanks to a generous donation from The Clearing Corporation and matching funds from the College of Agriculture, the Department of Agricultural Economics at Purdue University is hiring an outstanding associate or full professor to assume an endowed chair position focused on food and agricultural marketing. The successful candidate will have primary responsibilities in research and will contribute significantly to all three areas of the land grant mission. This is an academic year appointment with potential to access additional summer salary.

Principal Duties: The Department of Agricultural Economics seeks a candidate to become the first Clearing Corporation Chair in Food and Agricultural Marketing.  The successful candidate will bring an outstanding record of research and teaching to Purdue, where he or she will have an opportunity to enhance his or her program through collaboration with Purdue faculty and students, and access to funds from the endowment.  The candidate’s research program will focus on food and agricultural marketing, broadly defined. Relevant topics of investigation include, but are not limited to the following: agricultural commodity markets, risk management, consumer demand, food and agricultural systems, industrial organization, and price analysis. The successful candidate will pursue rigorous, cutting-edge research and publish in high quality disciplinary journals, mentor junior faculty and graduate students, and effectively communicate the implications of his or her research to public and private stakeholders. The candidate is expected to obtain external funding support for his or her research program. The candidate will also contribute to teaching at the graduate and undergraduate level.

The department of Agricultural Economics at Purdue has a rich tradition of providing research-based contributions to public policy debates surrounding agricultural markets and policy. The CWUR World University Rankings recently ranked the department as #4 in the world among departments focusing on agricultural economics and policy. The successful candidate will be expected to contribute to Purdue’s mission surrounding multidisciplinary research to identify and address pressing issues facing Indiana and the world.

Qualifications: A Ph.D. in agricultural economics, economics, or a related field and strong evidence of an outstanding record of scholarly research in the area of food and agricultural marketing is required. Salary will be commensurate with training and experience.
